The split.tools video splitter turns long recordings — webinars, streams, lectures, interviews — into short clips ready for TikTok, Reels, Shorts, and LinkedIn, without opening an editor or uploading a multi-gigabyte file anywhere.

Scrub the timeline, mark an in-point and an out-point for each moment worth keeping, and build a queue of clips across the whole video — segments can even overlap, so a tight cut and a full-context cut of the same moment export side by side. Then run the batch: each clip is captured with frame-accurate boundaries and the set downloads as one ZIP.

Because the file opens locally, a 2 GB recording is ready to cut the instant you drop it. Export uses the browser's own capture pipeline at up to 8 Mbps — clips are re-encoded in real time, a trade-off that's invisible on social platforms since they re-compress every upload anyway.

Is the video uploaded while I cut it?

No. The file plays from your disk inside the browser tab. Marking, previewing, and exporting all happen locally — which is why even multi-gigabyte files open instantly.

How long does exporting take?

Capture runs in real time: a 45-second clip takes about 45 seconds to export. Mark all your clips first, start the batch, and let it run while you write captions.

What format do clips export in?

WebM (VP9 or VP8) at up to 8 Mbps in most browsers. Every major platform — TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn — accepts WebM uploads and re-encodes them regardless of source format.

Is the cut lossless?

No — clips are re-encoded by the browser's capture pipeline, in exchange for frame-accurate cut points and zero installs. For social clips this is the right trade: platforms re-compress uploads anyway, usually below 8 Mbps. For archival masters, use a keyframe-based stream-copy tool instead.

Which browsers work?

Chrome and Edge fully support in-page capture; Firefox works via its capture API. Safari's support is limited — if export fails there, the tool will tell you rather than fail silently.

Can clips overlap?

Yes. Segments are independent, so you can export a 30-second tight cut and a 90-second context cut of the same moment in one batch — one version per platform.
